WSC 2018 set for Sweden on Dec. 9-12

The 2018 Winter Simulation Conference (WSC 2018) will be held Dec. 9-12 at The Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The 2018 conference seeks to highlight applications of simulation for noble causes in addition to continuing to report leading developments and applications in other fields. The track sessions will feature uses of simulation in efforts analyzing and addressing issues facing humanity including, but not limited to, reducing poverty and world hunger, social causes, social problems, improving natural environment and disaster response. In addition to a technical program of unsurpassed scope and quality, WSC is the central meeting place for simulation practitioners, researchers and vendors working in all disciplines in industry, service, government, military and academic sectors.

WSC 2018 is sponsored by: ACM/SIGSIM, IISE (Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers), INFORMS-SIM and SCS (Society for Modeling and Simulation International), with technical co-sponsorship from ASA (American Statistical Association), SIM (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Simulation), IEEE/SMC (Systems, Man and Cybernetics) and NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology). CIMON, the world’s first artificial intelligence-enabled astronaut assistant, made its debut aboard the International Space Station. Yale research on immigration, aging runners makes news

A recent study by Yale University professor and former INFORMS President Edward H. Kaplan (photo) and Yale colleague Jonathan Feinstein and Mohammad M. Fazel-Zarandi of MIT suggests that the number of undocumented immigrants in the United States is nearly twice as many as experts previously thought. Since its publication last month, the study, which estimates the number of such immigrants at 22.1 million instead of 11.3 million, has garnered worldwide attention from major media outlets including the Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe, Fox News, Bloomberg News and the Daily Mail.
