Update: Analytics Section of INFORMS

Headlines

The Analytics Section of INFORMS continues to boom, reports Section President Mike Gorman in the organization’s January newsletter, The Analytics Lens. According to Gorman, membership in the Section now exceeds 500, and its LinkedIn group has about 440 members. The Section will have “a strong presence” at the upcoming INFORMS Analytics Conference in April in Huntington Beach, Calif., when it will announce the winner of the first-ever “Innovations in Analytics Award.”

The Analytics Section announced its second award, the SAS and INFORMS Analytics Section Student Analytical Scholarship, which will allow a deserving student to go to the INFORMS Analytics Conference.

The Section’s newsletter also includes reports from the Aberdeen Business Summit on Analytics and the Predictive Analytics Innovation Summit Conference.

IBM intensifies fight against Zika virus

IBM recently announced that it is committing powerful resources, technology and pro bono expertise to help scientists, the public health community and humanitarian agencies in the fight against the Zika virus. As part of its IBM Impact Grant programs, IBM is providing technology and talent to Brazil’s Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), a research institution affiliated with the Brazilian Ministry of Health and one the most prominent science and technology health institution in Latin America. Mu Sigma releases ‘State of Analytics and Decision Science’ report

Mu Sigma, a global provider of decision science and big data analytics solutions, recently announced the results of its inaugural “State of Analytics and Decision Science” report, which identifies gaps and shortcomings in traditional approaches to analytics and problem solving. With the goal of understanding senior decision makers’ priorities and challenges in regards to analytics, Mu Sigma surveyed executives who lead or heavily influence data and analytics investment decisions at large U.S. enterprises across a variety of industries.
