The 2018 INFORMS Conference on Business Analytics and Operations Research is approaching and Analytics Society officers are looking forward to seeing many of our members in Baltimore on April 15-17. The Society’s Prize Committees are working hard in preparation for the Innovative Applications in Analytics Award and the Syngenta Crop Challenge.     Society turns its attention to awards and regional meetings

With the 2017 INFORMS Annual Meeting behind us, the Analytics Society is turning its sights to its awards and regional meetings. The Society’s Prize Committee has been very busy analyzing entries for the Innovative Applications in Analytics Award. The committee received 29 high-quality entries and is doing due diligence in analyzing each one. The Society is looking forward to presentations by six finalists at the INFORMS Conference on Business Analytics & O.R. in Baltimore in April 2018. The judges will have a tough decision picking a winner.

The 2018 Caterpillar and INFORMS Analytics Society Innovative Applications in Analytics Award (IAAA) competition is underway. By Nov. 15, the award’s judging panel will select six finalists from among 28 submissions. Each finalist team will be assigned a coach.

At the recent INFORMS Conference on Business Analytics & Operations Research, the Analytics Society hosted a recognition breakfast for the winners and participants in competitions that the Society sponsors. The awards included the Innovative Applications in Analytics Award (IAAA), the Student Analytical Scholar Award and the Syngenta Crop Challenge. Scott Zoldi, chief analytics officer at FICO, in his AI predictions for 2018, predicts the rise of “defensive AI” and manipulative chatbots. Blockchain will use AI to search through relationship data, Zoldi says, and defensive AI will be used to protect systems from malicious AI and machine learning.
