AIMMS-based decision support tool addresses Europe’s refugee crisis

AIMMS, Nyenrode University and PwC announced the creation of a decision-support application for municipalities and other government offices that are responding to the ongoing refugee crisis in Europe. The application leverages PwC’s Business Simulator, a modeling solution built with AIMMS software, to analyze the impact of municipality decision scenarios on actual socio-economic policies.

    Hackathon introduces young analysts to real-world problems

Katherine Anne Giles, a recent MBA grad from Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business, and Iman Dayarian, a postdoctoral fellow from the University of Toronto, teamed up to win the AIMMS Hackathon. The event, held in conjunction with the INFORMS Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, is designed to help students and young O.R. specialists develop modeling and optimization skills while gaining experience in using AIMMS software to solve complex real-world problems.

While marketing and sales professionals increasingly find themselves drowning in data, a new IBM study finds that 64 percent of surveyed CMOs and sales leaders believe their industries will be ready to adopt cognitive technologies in the next three years. Among the many factors that impact digital marketing and online advertising strategy, a new study in the INFORMS journal Marketing Science provides insight to a growing trend among firms and big brands: weather-based advertising. According to the study, certain weather conditions are more amenable for consumer responses to mobile marketing efforts, while the tone of the ad content can either help or hurt such response depending on the current local weather.
