A new survey shows that 78 percent of U.S. respondents say a company’s ability to keep their data private is “extremely important” and only 20 percent “completely trust” organizations they interact with to maintain the privacy of their data. The poll underscores the public’s view of the obligation that organizations have to handle data responsibly and protect it from hackers.

  Survey says CRM is largest software market and will continue to grow

At the end of 2017, worldwide customer relationship management (CRM) software revenue overtook that of database management systems (DBMSs), making CRM the largest of all software markets, according to Gartner, Inc.

Worldwide CRM software revenue amounted to $39.5 billion in 2017, overtaking DBMS revenue, which reached $36.8 billion in the same year.

  Society plays a big role at analytics conference

Well, it is hard to believe the INFORMS Conference on Business Analytics and Operations Research is over. I strongly believe this is the best conference anywhere. It was great seeing so many members of the Analytics Society in attendance.

Our members remain very involved and contributed throughout the conference. Don Kleinmutz, a former society president, served as emcee of the Edelman Gala, which is always a conference highlight. Don was witty, entertaining and styling in a tuxedo.

Many other members made presentations, served on panels and supported multiple competitions.

Winners of 2018 Innovative Applications in Analytics Award named

When it comes to the winners of the 2018 Caterpillar and INFORMS Analytics Society Innovative Applications in Analytics Award (IAAA), which were announced during the recent INFORMS Conference on Business Analytics and Operations Research in Baltimore, it is apparently better to be safe than safer. The award recognizes organizations for applications that feature novel combinations of descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analytics to achieve meaningful results.

“The INFORMS Analytics Body of Knowledge” (ABOK) is a comprehensive compilation of the core concepts and skills with which a professional in analytics should be familiar. It is being produced and will be maintained by members of INFORMS and published by Wiley. ABOK will serve as the means by which the academic society or professional association communicates its vision, both internally and externally. It will do so by providing those interested in the development and application of the tools of analytics with a means for understanding what analytics is and how analytics can be used to solve complex problems, make better decisions and formulate more effective strategies.
