Trusty comes from the Association of Clinical Research Professionals where she was the director of certification responsible for four global certification programs including the new Certified Professional program that she developed to meet the needs of the clinical research professional industry.

INFORMS is requesting proposals to organize the initial INFORMS Security Conference. In a continuing effort to promote the development and use of operations research and analytics in the government sector, INFORMS aims to have the conference bring together researchers and practitioners to ensure security in not only government, but industrial and personal activities as well.

INFORMS recently launched the Recognition and Development Department to promote charitable giving opportunities to support the profession, INFORMS programs, the robust INFORMS awards program, as well as a new focus on scholarship opportunities. “The INFORMS Analytics Body of Knowledge” (ABOK) is a comprehensive compilation of the core concepts and skills with which a professional in analytics should be familiar. It is being produced and will be maintained by members of INFORMS and published by Wiley. ABOK will serve as the means by which the academic society or professional association communicates its vision, both internally and externally. It will do so by providing those interested in the development and application of the tools of analytics with a means for understanding what analytics is and how analytics can be used to solve complex problems, make better decisions and formulate more effective strategies.

Student teams from around the world showed that they are more than ready for the challenge at the second annual O.R. & Analytics Student Team Competition held during the recent 2018 INFORMS Conference on Business Analytics and Operations Research in Baltimore. A group of students from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, successfully used O.R. and analytics to create a competitive equity portfolio to win this year’s event following a daylong series of presentations.

Using machine learning and optimization to improve refugee integration

Andrew C. Trapp, a professor at the Foisie Business School at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), received a $320,000 National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to develop a computational tool to help humanitarian aid organizations significantly improve refugees’ chances of successfully resettling and integrating into a new country. Built upon ongoing work with an international team of computer scientists and economists, the tool integrates machine learning and optimization algorithms, along with complex computation of data, to match refugees to communities where they will find appropriate resources, including employment opportunities. Gartner, Inc. has released its 10th annual Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25 ranking. The rankings recognize organizations across the healthcare value chain that demonstrate leadership in improving human life at sustainable costs. “Healthcare supply chains today face a multitude of challenges: increasing cost pressures and patient expectations, as well as the need to keep up with rapid technology advancement, to name just a few,” says Stephen Meyer, senior director at Gartner. Meet CIMON, the first AI-powered astronaut assistant

CIMON, the world’s first artificial intelligence-enabled astronaut assistant, made its debut aboard the International Space Station. The ISS’s newest crew member, developed and built in Germany, was called into action on Nov. 15 with the command, “Wake up, CIMON!,” by German ESA astronaut Alexander Gerst, who has been living and working on the ISS since June 8.
