Boardman wins SAS/INFORMS Student Scholarship

Daniel Boardman, an MBA student from Baruch College’s Zicklin School of Business, was named the winner of the Student Analytical Scholar Competition sponsored by the Analytics Section of INFORMS and supported by SAS. Boardman’s application earned him free registration, lodging and travel to the upcoming INFORMS Business Analytics & Operations Research Conference, as well as participation in the Professional Colloquium at the conference.

  Section update, highlights, new officers

At the recent INFORMS Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, the Analytics Section of INFORMS held its annual business meeting, jointly chaired by outgoing President Zahir Balaporia and incoming President Don Kleinmuntz. During this meeting, with more than 100 members in attendance, Zahir announced the results of the section’s recent elections. The officers serving until the 2014 INFORMS Annual Meeting include: President Don Kleinmuntz (Strata Decision Technology), VP/President-Elect Glenn Wegyrn (Analytic Impact), Secretary Veena Mendiratta (Alcatel-Lucent) and Treasurer Tarun Mohan Lal (Mayo Clinic).

Semi-finalists named for Innovative Applications in Analytics Award

The Analytics Section of INFORMS announced that nine semifinalists for its 2013 Innovative Applications in Analytics Award will make presentations at the INFORMS Annual Meeting in Minneapolis in October. Three finalists will be selected in November, leading up to the finalists’ presentations and the naming of the winner at the INFORMS Conference on Business Analytics and Operations Research in March 2014.
