New member of Education & Industry Outreach Department

Heather TrustyINFORMS recently welcomed Heather Trusty (photo) to the Education & Industry Outreach team as the new CAP certification manager. Trusty comes from the Association of Clinical Research Professionals where she was the director of certification responsible for four global certification programs including the new Certified Professional program that she developed to meet the needs of the clinical research professional industry.

Prior to ACRP, Trusty developed a certification exam for the Global Business Travel Association. Trusty has been in the certification/professional development non-profit industry for more than 20 years. She brings with her a diverse background in associations, specifically in certification, professional development and volunteer leadership.

“I am excited to join the INFORMS team and grow the Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) program,” Trusty says. “My experience in developing and maintaining certification programs, working with subject matter experts, volunteer leadership and the membership make me a good fit for this program. It takes tremendous commitment to develop and maintain valid and reliable exams. It is very satisfying to work with a professional organization that recognizes the value of a global certification program. This is evident in the CAP program receiving the ANSI accreditation.”

“We are very excited to have Heather on the team due to the wealth of experience she brings in certification. She has great ideas for continuing to grow the program and show its value to companies and practitioners,” says Tasha Inniss, director, Education & Industry Outreach.

The INFORMS Certification Program offers many opportunities for organizations and individuals to partner with institutions, specifically master’s degree programs in analytics/business analytics interested in offering the aCAP exam to graduates. Corporations can arrange for a team of their employees to take the CAP exam through corporate partnerships with INFORMS. Individuals who are CAP- or aCAP-certified can participate in the recently established Ambassador Program to help get the word out about CAP and study for the exam, in addition to using the credential as a career booster.

“With Heather at the helm, for the future of CAP, I envision employers including CAP-required or CAP-preferred in their job descriptions, an exponential growth in certificants, and a robust list of partners and ambassadors,” Inniss adds.

Does negative political advertising actually work?

While many potential voters dread campaign season because of pervasive negative political advertising, a new study has found that negative political advertising actually works, but perhaps not in the way that many may assume. The study “A Border Strategy Analysis of Ad Source and Message Tone in Senatorial Campaigns,” which will be published in the June edition of INFORMS’ journal Marketing Science, is co-authored by Yanwen Wang of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Michael Lewis of Emory University in Atlanta and David A. Schweidel of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Read more →
