Meet the new certification manager

Recertification: INFORMS offers free, three-year CAP renewalINFORMS recently welcomed its new Certified Analytics Professional (CAP®) manager, Jan paul Miller. Miller replaces Louise Werhrle, who retired to her native Newfoundland. A Baltimore native, Miller is a credentialing professional who sees his position at INFORMS at a most opportune time. “I think the CAP and aCAP programs are on the cusp of developing great momentum. Considering that the program has submitted its ANSI application and has had a favorable onsite visit, it could not but be a harbinger of good things to come.”

Miller was impressed with his predecessor’s work and the work of the Analytics Certification Board. “If one is committed to doing the ANSI protocol correctly, one has a solid foundation on which to run the credential.”

Miller views the future with great anticipation. “We have an opportunity to reach out to our corporate and academic stakeholders to increase the number and impact of certified analytics professional,” he said. “Certainly, I want to make sure we develop those partnerships to lend visibility to the credential and to showcase the good work our certificants do in a variety of settings with any number of populations. I’m looking forward to working with the ACB, our volunteers and our certificants in making the CAP credential the gold standard by which all others will be judged.”

When Miller, a former college professor of English, was asked what makes him so enthusiastic about his new assignment, he said: “One need only to read the CAP Vision Statement: ‘To advance the use of analytics to transform the world by setting agreed-upon standards for the profession.’ As it is with teaching, one doesn’t know where his influence begins or ends, but to help make this vision a reality is certainly the capstone of my career in association professional development.”
