OR/MS Today is the membership magazine of INFORMS.

INFORMS, the world’s largest organization for analytics professionals and the publishers of Analytics magazine, has redesigned its PubsOnLine platform to include more intuitive navigation and bold graphics, thus creating an overall more enjoyable reader experience in a completely mobile responsive environment.

Along with an updated home for its academic journals, the ongoing project includes the migration of INFORMS magazine content, including Analytics and OR/MS Today (the membership magazine of INFORMS), to PubsOnLine. The full archive of magazine content should be migrated by November.

Trusty joins INFORMS as CAP certification manager

INFORMS recently welcomed Heather Trusty to the Education & Industry Outreach team as the manager of its Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) program. CAP is the premier global professional certification for analytics practitioners. Those who meet CAP’s high standards and pass the rigorous exam distinguish themselves and create greater opportunities for career enhancement.

For organizations seeking to enhance their ability to transform data into valuable insights and actions, CAP provides a trusted means to identify, recruit and retain top analytics talent. In addition, the CAP program offers many opportunities for organizations and individuals to partner with institutions, specifically master’s degree programs in analytics/business analytics interested in offering the aCAP (Associate Certified Analytics Professional) exam to recent graduates or entry-level practitioners who lack the practice experience that is essential to earn the CAP.

Trusty comes from the Association of Clinical Research Professionals where she was the director of certification responsible for four global certification programs including the new Certified Professional program that she developed to meet the needs of the clinical research professional industry.

Proposals sought for inaugural INFORMS Security Conference

INFORMS is requesting proposals to organize the initial INFORMS Security Conference. In a continuing effort to promote the development and use of operations research and analytics in the government sector, INFORMS aims to have the conference bring together researchers and practitioners to ensure security in not only government, but industrial and personal activities as well.

Proposals can include suggestions for: program chairs, conference location, conference theme or focus, keynote speakers, special events and activities, sponsorship, networking opportunities and more.

Proposals should be sent to Shelley Renn (srenn@informs.org), INFORMS Director of Meetings, or Ron Askin (ron.askin@asu.edu), VP of Meetings.

Essential practice skills workshop set for Washington, D.C.

Patrick-Noonan

Patrick Noonan

Patrick Noonan, a former management consultant, business owner and college professor, will lead a two-day workshop in the Washington, D.C., area as part of INFORMS’ Professional Development and Continuing Education program. The workshop, entitled, “Essential Practice Skills for High-Impact Analytics Projects,” will be held Sept. 19-20 at the AMA Washington D.C. Area Executive Conference Center in Arlington, Va.

In the workshop, Noonan will combine a hands-on teaching and learning approach honed from his faculty positions at Harvard, Duke and most recently Emory University, with real-world experience from his business career starting at global management consulting giant McKinsey & Co. By the end of the course, participants will: 1) learn to link their subject-matter expertise to the challenges of messy, unstructured problems, organizational noise and non-technical decision-makers; and 2) understand best-practice techniques, including: problem statement summaries, issue trees, interview guides, work plans, sensitivity analysis, stress-testing recommendations, the “Pyramid Principle” of story logic, story-boarding, slide-craft, delivering presentations and fielding Q&A.

Participants in the workshop will learn and hone the skills they need to turn analytical insights into organizational actions that drive innovation, growth and efficiency. Participants hail from a variety of industries and hold various job titles, ranging from data scientists to CFOs.
