DoD uses AIMMS-based models to boost cybersecurity efforts

AIMMS, a vendor of prescriptive analytics software, recently announced that the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has chosen AIMMS’ innovative modeling environment to perform sophisticated cybersecurity analyses. The DoD’s Cyber and Business Systems Division (C3CB) will leverage AIMMS to solve large-scale optimization problems.
C3CB has already developed a prototype optimization model and seeks to use AIMMS as a long-term modeling and analytics solution. As described in the DoD’s documentation, there was an extensive analysis done to obtain “the right software to meet the needs at the lowest cost and time to the government.”

The DoD has chosen AIMMS due to the flexibility of the software, its advanced modeling features and its ability to handle a wide range of problem types. The models C3CB will develop are very complex and require a high-end, powerful and comprehensive technology. AIMMS, which is equipped with the CPLEX Solver, will enable them to speed up development times while supporting stochastic and robust optimization, as well as advanced simulations. Other benefits that drove their decision included the ability to read Microsoft Excel and Access files, easily manipulating data without the need to re-import it, and seamlessly creating user interfaces and visualizations to interpret analytics results.

Said AIMMS North America V.P. Chris Gordon: “Anticipating and effectively responding to cyber threats is of utmost importance for the public and private sector today. We are pleased to assist the U.S. Department of Defense in their efforts to improve cybersecurity.”

Study: The magic of animated movies not tied to latest technology

In the nearly 60 years between the 1939 release of Hollywood’s first full-length animated movie, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” and modern hits like “Toy Story,” “Shrek” and more, advances in animation technology have revolutionized not only animation techniques, but moviemaking as a whole. However, a new study in the INFORMS journal Organization Science found that employing the latest technology doesn’t always ensure creative success for a film. Read more →

Are Super Bowl ads worth it? New research suggests benefits persist

On Feb. 4, more than 40 percent of U.S. households will watch the 2018 Super Bowl game on TV. Advertisers will pay up to $4 million for a 30-second spot during the telecast.
